In response to the ongoing war in Ukraine, Albania has extended the period that Ukrainian nationals and their family members can stay in the country without a residence permit. On 21 May 2025, the Council of Ministers approved a new decision allowing them to stay for up to four years.
This measure updates the original decision from March 2022, which first allowed a one-year stay. That period was later extended to two years, and then to three.
Now, under the new amendment, all Ukrainian nationals and their family members who entered Albania on or after 18 March 2022 can stay for up to four years, without needing a residence permit.
This special protection helps reduce administrative procedures and gives displaced Ukrainians more stability and legal certainty during a time of crisis. It reflects Albania’s ongoing support for those affected by the war in Ukraine.
