On 15 July 2025, the Government of North Macedonia adopted an information to establish a Multifunctional Science and Technology Park (“Park”). The information sets the goal of fostering sustainable economic growth through the promotion of knowledge, innovation, and high-value technologies competitive in both domestic and international markets.
Planned to be located within the technical campus of the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje, the Park will offer close academic integration, advanced infrastructure, and strategic connectivity – including access to road, rail, and air transport. The facility is expected to attract startups, private investors, and companies seeking a supportive ecosystem for development and regional cooperation.
Importantly, the Park is also designed to empower young professionals and entrepreneurs by providing an environment where creative ideas can be developed into real business opportunities. This project includes planned educational programs, cultural and business development activities, and access to shared infrastructure, creating an environment conducive to innovation and entrepreneurship. Similar models have been successfully implemented in Ljubljana, Tirana, Strasbourg, and Pristina.
What does this mean for the business environment?
- facilitation of faster market entry by bridging the gap between research and commercialisation;
- opportunities for the private sector to partner with academia and innovators;
- access to new technologies and potential for joint ventures; and
- supportive regulatory and infrastructural environment encouraging growth and innovation.
Why does this matter?
This government-backed development highlights North Macedonia’s aim to establish itself as a future-oriented and attractive business environment in the region. Once operational, the Park is expected to drive innovation and economic growth, creating new opportunities for companies and investors domestically and internationally.
