Regional Sports Reforms

North Macedonia Accelerates Sports Development

Following the foundation of the Ministry of Sport, North Macedonia has made strong progress in developing its sports sector.

During this period, more than 40 sports projects were completed, including new sports halls, athletics tracks, and swimming pools. Several more facilities are under construction, giving more opportunities for athletes and communities across the country.

Recent legal updates introduce financial incentives for private and institutional investment in sports. Additionally, upcoming reforms in governance and dispute resolution could aim to provide clearer protections for athletes, clubs, and investors in this sector. These changes are expected to strengthen the reliability of partnerships by offering improved access to domestic sports arbitration and, where allowed by law, international mechanisms such as the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The country also hosted the first-ever Regional Sports Summit in Skopje, bringing together sports ministers from Serbia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. The event highlighted growing regional cooperation in developing the sports economy and showcased government programs supporting municipalities to create more opportunities for young people and communities to engage in sports.

Looking ahead, North Macedonia plans to expand sports facilities further, improve legal protections and attract more investment, creating a stronger, more transparent, fairer sports environment for everyone involved.
