The European Commission (“Commission”) announced the launch of “AI Factories Antennas” in seven Member States and in partner countries, including North Macedonia and Serbia.
The Commission has identified the establishment of AI Factories as a strategic priority, as announced in the 2024 AI Innovation Package. These antennas will work closely with AI Factories to provide national AI communities with secure remote access to world-class, AI-Optimised supercomputing services.
Ursula von der Leyen delivered a key address at the Western Balkans Investment Conference in Tirana, emphasising the region’s strategic importance for Europe’s future, with a clear message for the investors: “If you choose the Western Balkans, you choose Europe”.
In North Macedonia, the “Vezilka” project, led by Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, with governmental support, will establish a strategic link to the Pharos AI Factory in Greece (“Vezilka”). Vezilka positions North Macedonia as an active participant in the European network of artificial intelligence centres, fostering collaboration and innovation.
Macedonian institutions, researchers, businesses, and startups will have the opportunity to develop impactful solutions and accelerate growth across five critical sectors: (i) healthcare, (ii) energy, (iii) culture and language, (iv) digital transformation of public administration, and (v) agriculture.
Vezilka not only promotes regional cooperation but also highlights North Macedonia’s important contribution to the European AI ecosystem.
