Slovenia Hosts Tax Advisors Congress: Key Insights on UAE Residency and Global Tax Trends

Tax Advisory Chambers of the Republic of Slovenia hosted the 54th Tax Education Days and the 15th Congress of Tax Advisors, which brought together experts from the tax and accounting profession in Laško, Slovenia, on 21 and 22 May.

The event covered a wide range of topics, including the potential benefits of artificial intelligence for accountants and tax advisers, the development of the tax advisory profession in Europe, future plans, and the role of a tax advisor as a court expert, with practical examples, as well as the global minimum tax.

One of the speakers at the congress was also our colleague from Ketler & Partners, member of Karanovic, Tax Law Expert Dr. Maruša Pozvek, who presented to the participants the very hot tax topic of the moment – The Issue of Tax Residence of Slovenians in the United Arab Emirates. Her presentation highlighted common challenges in determining tax residency status, the legal implications for individuals, and the importance of properly managing one’s residency in accordance with international tax treaties. Attendees also received practical guidance on optimising their tax planning.

In summary, this event successfully brought together industry experts to explore critical tax topics. Highlighting Slovenia’s proactive stance, our colleague’s contribution to challenges for Slovenians in the United Arab Emirates, where she provided valuable insights into legal and practical considerations for individuals abroad. This topic, alongside sessions on the global minimum tax and upcoming domestic tax changes, highlighted the event’s commitment to addressing current challenges and preparing for future developments in the local and international tax landscape.
