Legal & Compliance Event

Zlatibor Hosts 2025 Legal and Compliance Conference for Banking Sector Professionals

The annual conference of Legal and Compliance Functions in Banks has once again proven to be the leading forum for exchanging regulatory updates and best practices among professionals in the legal, compliance and financial sectors in Serbia. Organised by the Association of  Serbian Banks and held from 28 to 30 May in Zlatibor, this year’s event brought together over 250 experts from key institutions, regulatory bodies, law firms and tech innovators.

The conference was open by presentations of the regulator, the National Bank of Serbia, on the recent changes of the Law on Banks and the Law on Protection of Users of Financial Services. Our Partner Maja Jovančević Šetka participated as the speaker and shared her expertise on the loan and bonds transactions which qualify for the Minimum Requirement for Capital and Eligible Liabilities (MREL) under banking regulations.

Other relevant topics across the legal, compliance and banking sector, included:

  • Issues in litigation, such as cost recovery in low-value commercial disputes and the legal effects of CHF-to-EUR credit conversion;
  • Enforcement procedures, including the legality of actions, objections by debtors and third parties, and enforcement on unregistered property;
  • The digitalisation of the cadastre, and new tools for data input and search in real estate and utility records;
  • The growing role of legal tech, including legal databases, analytics, and data integration.

True to tradition, the program offered more than just education: informal networking over lunch breaks and evening social events provided a relaxed environment for building connections and sharing experiences.
