CEE Legal Matters Summit

Karanović & Partners at the Balkan General Counsel Summit 2025

Our team took an active part in the Balkan General Counsel Summit, organised by CEE Legal Matters, a leading publication and platform dedicated to the business of law in Central and Eastern Europe. The event took place on 21 October 2025 in Belgrade, gathering leading in-house counsel and legal experts from across the region to discuss the intersections of law, technology, and corporate governance.

Milena Jakšić Papac, our Partner and Head of the Employment Practice Group, chaired the event, opening the summit by emphasising the vital role of in-house counsel in today’s regulatory environment, as well as the importance of regional collaboration, knowledge exchange, and dialogue on key legal developments across the Balkans.

Our Senior Partner Rastko Petaković held a presentation titled “AI and the Illusion of Confidentiality: What In-House Counsel Must Know.” He explored how the rapid adoption of generative AI tools challenges traditional concepts of legal privilege and client confidentiality. His session offered a practical playbook for legal teams, covering governance, technology, and contractual safeguards, to ensure that AI usage complies with confidentiality obligations and professional secrecy standards.

Our Partner Goran Radošević moderated the panel named “Privacy at Work: Surveillance, Software, and Subject Access – Legal Lessons from Practice.” The discussion featured Marija Ćalasan (Legal Manager, Data Protection Officer, and Compliance Officer at Metro Cash & Carry Serbia), Nana Blagojević (Head of Legal at Bausch Health), Manja Breznik (Head of Legal and Compliance at CargoX), and Jelena Danilović (Head of Compliance at Hemofarm).

They addressed the balance between employee privacy and employer oversight in the age of workplace monitoring tools and remote-work platforms, offering useful lessons for compliance teams.

Through our participation at the summit, we reaffirmed our commitment to regional collaboration, contributing the Western Balkans’ perspective to Europe’s broader legal dialogue. We thank CEE Legal Matters for organising an event that continues to encourage meaningful exchange within our community.
