Business Breakfast: Tax Dispute

Understanding Tax Controls and Disputes: Insights into Administrative, Criminal Proceedings, and Disputes

On Friday 5 April, Karanović & Partners hosted a business breakfast dedicated to the realm of tax dispute. The event centred on key topics such as tax controls, administrative and criminal proceedings, and administrative disputes. Led by MSc Milena Vuković Buha from the Association of Tax Advisors of Serbia (UPSS), our colleague Partner Igor Angelovski, from Ketler & Partners, member of Karanovic, and our Senior Associate Andrej Jelenković, the seminar provided a platform for sharing valuable insights. Senior Associate Katarina Tomić moderated the conversation.

One of the focal points of discussion revolved around the role of the tax police as initiators of criminal proceedings, alongside tax administrative proceedings, and their impact on taxpayer rights. The speakers shared practical experiences, shedding light on the operational framework of the tax police and their strategic focus. They also explored the interplay between criminal proceedings overseen by public prosecutors and administrative tax proceedings and disputes.

An exchange of experiences among association members further enriched the dialogue, addressing questions concerning defence strategies and safeguarding taxpayer rights. The discussion also examined the tax inspection procedures, highlighting potential violations of taxpayer rights and underscoring the importance of legal security in proceedings before tax authorities.

Guests from the UPSS took the chance to get answers to their important questions, leading to an active and fruitful discussion. The seminar served as an example of knowledge-sharing and collaborative learning, underscoring our commitment to providing expertise and dialogue within the legal community.
