Karanovic & Partners participated at Adria Future Summit 2026, taking place from 22 to 24 April in Porto Montenegro.
Our Partner Petar Mitrović moderated the panel “The Renewable Energy Economy: Unlocking Investment, Scale and Speed”, held the first day of the conference.
The panel brought together senior decision-makers across government, development finance, and private investment: Admir Šahmanović, Minister of Energy and Mining of Montenegro; Grzegorz Zielinski, Director and Head of Energy Europe at the EBRD; Daniel Calderon, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Alcazar Energy; Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar; and Stéphanie Capdeville, Member of the Board of Directors of the Green for Growth Fund.
The discussion examined the conditions for scaling renewable energy investment in the Western Balkans, a region dealing with EU accession, residual fossil fuel dependencies, and growing pressure from the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which entered its definitive phase on 1 January 2026 and now imposes real costs on carbon-intensive electricity exports to the EU.
Panelists addressed Montenegro’s growing auction framework for renewable energy, the role of blended finance in making projects bankable, and the specific regulatory and infrastructure constraints that determine whether viable projects reach financial close.
The Adria Future Summit is convened by Sustineri Partners in partnership with the Government of Montenegro and under the auspices of the President of Montenegro. We thank the organisers for the invitation and look forward to continued engagement on the energy transition agenda in the region.
