On 20 October 2026, our dear colleagues from Qoku & Partners, in cooperation with Karanovic & Partners, traditionally organised and supported the ICC YAAF event “Construction Disputes in the Western Balkans” in Skopje, together with Squire Patton Boggs.
The event brought together lawyers, engineers, project managers and consulting experts from across the region to exchange insights on current developments in major construction and energy projects, explore practical challenges in project delivery and contract management, and discuss effective approaches to preventing and resolving disputes.
The first panel, “Avoiding Delays, Claims and Disputes on Construction Projects,” focused on the pre-arbitration phase and practical strategies for managing project risks, preventing delays, addressing contractual claims and resolving issues before they escalate into formal disputes. Our colleague Minu A. Gvardjančić, Senior Partner at Ketler & Partners, member of Karanovic, joined the panel alongside representatives of Bechtel Corporation, the Energy Community and IRD Engineering.
The second panel explored the most common issues arising in construction disputes, with a particular focus on construction arbitration and the complexities that parties face when disputes arise. The discussion offered valuable perspectives on dispute resolution in the context of complex construction projects.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for regional practitioners to share experiences, discuss challenges affecting major construction and energy projects, and exchange practical insights on managing contractual risks and resolving disputes.
