Key Takeaways from the AIJA Half-Year Conference 2026

Our colleague Nika Jurković, Senior Associate from Ilej & Partners, in cooperation with Karanovic & Partners, participated as a Session Coordinator and Speaker at the AIJA Half-Year Conference 2026, held in Bruges from 27 to 31 May 2026.

On 28 May, Nika participated as a panelist at the session “From Global to Local: Corporate Fragmentation and Legal Fallout in a World of Economic Nationalism”, organised by AIJA’s Corporate and M&A and Insolvency Commissions. The panel explored how rising protectionism, localisation requirements, and changing geopolitical realities are reshaping global business structures. Speakers discussed the legal and financial implications of strategic and forced corporate reorganisations, including spin-offs, carve-outs, governance challenges, and creditor risks. The panel featured contributions from leading practitioners across Europe,

Organised by the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA), the conference brought together legal professionals from across jurisdictions to discuss the challenges businesses face in an increasingly fragmented global economy. The programme focused on the impact of economic nationalism, shifting regulatory frameworks, and geopolitical developments on cross-border business operations and legal practice. Our colleague, Ajda Kuhar Partner from from Ketler & Partners, member of Karanovic, was also attending the event, representing our regional team of cooperating lawyers at this leading gathering of young legal professionals.
