Karanovic & Partners at SCL Serbia: Construction Contract Law in Practice

On 25 May 2026, our Partner Ana Luković gave a lecture at the Society of Construction Law in Serbia event held in Belgrade.

The lecture, titled “Common Legal Misconceptions in Negotiating and Applying Construction Contracts in Serbia”, addressed a practical problem that comes up repeatedly in the local market: construction contracts in Serbia are often negotiated and performed using mechanisms taken from foreign contractual models, FIDIC chief among them, without being properly adjusted to Serbian mandatory law.

Ana walked through the full lifecycle of a construction project, from the tender stage through execution to handover. The topics covered included price adjustment clauses, liability caps, contractual penalties, defect and warranty regimes, handover procedures and termination under domestic law. The lecture drew on examples to show where contractual arrangements reach their limits and where Serbian mandatory rules apply regardless of what the parties have agreed.

The event brought together industry professionals, construction lawyers and in-house counsels, , eager to discuss this prominent topic.

We thank SCL Serbia for the invitation and are happy to be part of the growing local construction law community.
